Hello and happy Saturday. I finally finished reading the book I was sort of stuck in and I started a new one that I’m thoroughly enjoying, but since I’m not done with it yet, I’m going to write about something else, which you already know because you read the title. I started watching The Queen’s Gambit in June, when I was casually seeing this guy and our dates consisted of going out to eat and then heading to my place to…you know, watch Netflix.
He had a weird taste in shows, so he made me watch the beginning of a series about Chernobyl, which ended up not being the miniseries that was super famous, and then when that didn’t work, we started watching Peaky Blinders, only to have me fall asleep in the second episode. I think I was the one who decided to watch The Queen’s Gambit, which he declared to be “one of the most boring shows” he’d ever seen, but I was fascinated.
The guy returned to his country of origin across the horizon and The Queen’s Gambit ended up forgotten halfway through the third episode, until recently, when I decided to go back to it and to finish it. And oh wow, it was simply brilliant. I loved the colors, the camera, the acting, the lines…I even enjoyed watching the characters play and strategize about chess even though I couldn’t care less about it.
If you’re looking for something to binge-watch and get over with in a day or two, then I totally recommend this show, although it is not the kind in which you can be doing other stuff while you watch. I mean, you totally can, I was just captivated with everything that was going on and couldn’t pay attention to anything other than what was going on in the screen.
I would really appreciate it if you gave me recommendations of shows like this one so that I can add them to my list and watch them in like three years or so. Have a nice weekend and hopefully next post will be about the book I’m currently reading.
