I am convinced that books find us when they’re supposed to, that they kind of know when they’re needed and make themselves visible in our lives. For the past few weeks, I’ve been dealing with a hard decision I feel like I had to make, and that I’ll probably tell you about soon, and I feel that No One Belongs Here More Than You by Miranda July came at just the right moment.
This is a collection of short stories, and even though I’m usually not a fan of short story collections, this was amazing. I’m not done with the book yet, but I can confidently say that it is one of my favorites of 2023. The writing style and themes are raw, some are downright inappropriate and could make readers uncomfortable, but I think that’s the whole point of the book and of each story, to make us feel something other than happy and cozy.
I usually donate my read books, but this is one I’m going to keep because I want to revisit the stories when I’m at a different stage in life. What’s a book that has “spoken to you” at a difficult of confusing moment? Would you recommend it?
