I know for you it hasn’t been that long, but I haven’t written a review in a few weeks. I haven’t even made much reading progress since I finished the book I’m writing about today, which is sad, and I hope I can do something about it this week. Thankfully, I am always super organized, so today I have a post for you, that comes with a recommendation. I am of course talking about A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall.
This is the second book by Sandy Hall that I have the pleasure of reading, and honestly, I find her romance novels so original and refreshing and quiet and cute, and also perfect to binge-read. This is the story of how Lea and Gabe met and fell for each other, but it’s told from the perspective of all these people (and animals, and things) around them, which I think is such a creative and unique concept, and I just kept imagining how this could work in a movie. I’ve mentioned my love for alternating perspectives, and there’s something really fun about having different characters build the same story, but from their individual point of view…it made me want to keep reading.
Now, this is contemporary romance, and it is set in college, so I would suggest it for readers who are at that awkward stage in which they are too old for YA but they don’t want to read a workplace romance and can’t relate to characters who (seemingly) have their lives together. When I read this genre, I know almost for a fact that I am not going to be getting this revolutionary plot, and I’m fine with it; I know what happens at the end, but I read so that I can find out how that happens, and this was the perfect story for that.
I also love Sandy Hall’s characters. At least in the two books by her that I’ve read, the portrayal of each character, but especially the protagonist and love interest, is realistic without being, as it tends to happen in romance novels. As I was reading, I could relate to Lea and Gabe, but also to the people around them, even if I haven’t experienced what they did in the novel.
Now tell me, how do you like your romance?
