My Thoughts on The Sun Is Also a Star

Hello and happy Monday. Yesterday I finished reading The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon, and if you’re around my age, you probably read it when it was released. I’ve never been one to jump on trends and I’ve never been one to consume content when it’s super hyped. I like to wait a while, sometimes even years and then see what all the fuss was about.

I understand the hype behind The Sun Is Also a Star. I understand why it was so popular when it released and I understand why it was adapted into a movie. That being said, I didn’t really feel connected to the story or the characters. I liked the choices the author made, alternating perspectives and formats because I think that adds a lot to any story, but I didn’t feel like the stakes were as high for the characters, especially for Daniel, the male main character, as maybe the author wanted me as a reader to feel.
