My Thoughts on Tash Hearts Tolstoy

Hello and happy Sunday. I told you that I was a week behind on posting, but you still love me and my reviews, so you don’t care. A couple of weeks ago, while I was reading Hannah Tate, Beyond Repair, and it got to a very tropey part of the story, I decided I needed to take a break from romance books. I knew that Tash Hearts Tolstoy by Kathryn Ornsbee featured an asexual main character and because of that, I stupidly assumed that this book would not feature any romance. I was wrong and I based my assumption on a stereotype even though I know full well that asexual people are perfectly capable of falling in love and engaging in romantic relationships, which wouldn’t have ruled out romance in a book that had an asexual person for a main character.

All that was a mistake on my part, and I deserve being called out for it even more than what I’m doing right now. That did not really affect my enjoyment of the book, but the plot itself did, and I’ll tell you why. I am not sure whether this was intended to be a slice-of-life type of novel, but it kind of was. I got the feeling that many little things were happening while simultaneously nothing was. Have you ever felt that while reading a book? It’s not that it was boring- maybe it was a bit too dense at times, and maybe the main character didn’t make the story enjoyable at times because she wasn’t very likeable but also not unlikeable enough…What I’m saying is, it was a three-star read for me, and I’m sure I’ll never think about this novel again, and I’m fine with that.
