My Thoughts on Blessed Nowhere

Hello and happy Sunday. I know that the past few reviews I’ve written and you’ve read are from books I got via Kindle Unlimited maybe you’re wondering if I’ve stopped consuming NetGalley ARCs. I haven’t, and I am actually sharing my thoughts on an ARC I finished reading a couple of days ago: Blessed Nowhere by Catherine Black. As always, I’d like to thank NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this novel.

This novel deals with grief, specifically the grief of a young mother who loses her kid in an accident. This is not a topic I am especially sensitive to, but I know some readers might be, so you might want to consider this before reading this novel. After a while trying and failing to get her life back together after the death of Joseph, her son, she ends up traveling from Canada, where she’s originally from, to a seemingly desolate town in Mexico.

It took me a while to get through this book. I took hour-long and even day-long pauses because it is dense. The mood is generally sad, which obviously is expected, given the subject matter. Something that helps going through it and actually enjoying it even if it’s a heavy read is the cinematographic language. It felt like watching a movie or a show. I recommend reading this novel, but doing so slowly, taking your time to process.
