Hello and happy Thursday. Today I’m not bringing you a review of a book I finished, but comments on three books that I started and decided to stop reading. They’re not proper reviews, since I don’t know a lot about them, but hopefully, my insights can help inform your decision as to whether or not to pick up these books.
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
I know that this is considered a “must” by many, but to be fair, I don’t think those people are the ones I’ll follow recommendations from. I was bored, there was nothing hooking me to this novel, and I felt like I was completing a chore for school. This was a hard DNF. I’m never picking it back up unless it’s being read to me and I don’t have to spend money on it.
Fireworks by Katie Cotugno
I’ve discussed this author before and what’s happened to me with her books: the more I read them, the less I like her. I really tried to get into this one, but after reading the same paragraph three times in a row, I knew I wasn’t kidding anybody.
Funny Story by Emily Henry
This would’ve been my first Emily Henry book, had I been able to get past the second page. Okay, no, I totally could have, but I didn’t want to. Two pages was all I needed to realize that the main character was absolutely insufferable and that I didn’t want to read 395 pages of her. Also…who writes a 395-page romance? I’m debating whether this will be a hard or a soft DNF, but I think that maybe I’ll give her other titles a try, and if I like them, then this one can get another chance. Don’t hold your breath though.
