Hello and happy Monday. This will probably be the last book I review on my vacation, and I’m very happy that it has been my favorite so far this year. I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston is simply brilliant, and even though I know this author’s other books are not like this one, I am excited to read them.
This novel follows Chloe, who has competed with Shara Wheeler throughout their entire high school career for valedictorian, but days away from their graduation, Shara kisses Chloe and then disappears. Chloe, of course, decides to look for Shara, and in doing so she discovers that Shara has set up a scavenger-hunt type of quest for Chloe, Smith, Shara’s boyfriend, and Rory, Shara’s neighbor. This was beautifully done, and it was so queer and so fun and so insightful. If you’re an adult who enjoyed reading John Green and David Levithan growing up like I did, you’ll feel like you traveled back in time in the best way possible.
