My Thoughts on Everything Is a Little Broken

Hello and happy Sunday. How’s life? Have you been reading? I have, and today I’m sharing my thoughts on a book that I hope makes the ‘Best of 2024’ lists. I’m talking about Everything Is a Little Broken by Rebecca Sugar. I’d like to thank NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I think this novel came into my life at the perfect moment. It is quiet and not much happens, but I related to it so, so much. It felt like a cup of tea at the end of a long and hectic day. We follow Mira, a woman in her late forties, during the weeks following her dad’s spine surgery. She has a brother, who I’m pretty sure is younger than her, but he’s not around, so like many older sisters, she has taken on the responsibility of caring for her parents, especially her dad, with whom she’s closest.

This is very character-driven, so if you’re not into that, you might find it slow, probably boring, and like nothing really happens. And, yes, it is all those things, but it was also an opportunity for me to pause and look at my life and my mom’s life. It is a small treasure, and I hope more people get to read it and relate to it as much as I did.
