My Thoughts on The Lover’s Dictionary

Hello and happy Monday. A couple of weeks ago, which for some reason feel like years now, I read The Lover’s Dictionary by David Levithan. I think I read the whole thing at once because it wasn’t particularly long or tough. I didn’t feel it was very engaging or impactful, either.

I do appreciate that David Levithan always tries to innovate when it comes to his writing style or the format of his pieces, but that doesn’t always mean that he succeeds; I still very much prefer his traditionally-written novels. In the case of The Lover’s Dictionary, it was written like that, so each chapter was like a dictionary entry. I don’t think I need to explain this format any further. Reading this reminded me of when I watched Queer As Folk and would fast forward to only the scenes of a couple I really liked. I felt that I was reading about the couple I didn’t really care for.
