Hello and happy Sunday. How have you been? I feel like this is the first weekend in a while that really feels like a weekend. I don’t really know why -it just does. I guess I’m relieved to be done with the beginning of the year chaos. I’m also glad to go back to listening to audiobooks, and today I’ll tell you about one I listened to in December. I’m talking about Nothing Special by Dianne Bilyak, which I originally gotten via NetGalley, but let expire. I promise, the post about NetGalley will come soon.
This is a memoir about the author’s experiences growing up with a sister who has Down Syndrome. At least, that’s how the book is “sold.” It really is the retelling of the author’s life and how she was pretty much neglected by her dad. It’s also about her growing up with a sibling who needed way more attention from her mom than she did. It was tough to listen to, at times, but also raw and realistic, and you can tell all throughout how much Bilyak loves and admires her sister and feels lucky to have her.
