Hello and happy Sunday. As per usual on Sundays, I have already lived like five lives and it’s 11:17am. That’s how I like it, so, no complaints there. Today I’m also going to finish the book that will for sure be one of my favorites this year, and you’ll read all about it in a few weeks. This post, though, is not about a book I particularly loved. I’m talking about By Your Side by Kasie West.
I got the audiobook version through Everand, and I think that consuming it that way was ideal. I would’ve probably DNFed it if I’d had to read it with my eyes, and not because it was bad; it was just boring. I’ve said this about other Kasie West books I’ve read recently, but I’ll say it again: they’re bland and formulaic and were also written for an audience that I’m no longer a member of. I mean, By Your Side was published on 2017. I was 23 back then. I would’ve at least liked this novel, but I’m like…eh.
If after reading this you’re still interested, this novel starts when the main character and her love interest get locked up at the library and (I think) spend a couple of days there because there’s a snowstorm (maybe? I might be making that up.) I feel that the author tried to give some depth to the novel, as she’s done with other titles, by giving the love interest a complex background having to do with his family dynamics, but all in all, if you’ve read one Kasie West book, you’ve read them all.
