Hello and happy Thursday. Happy last day of the month. I hope that August is beautiful and that you enjoy my regular programming. Now, if you still want to squeeze in one last summer read, I suggest The Seven Steps to Closure by Donna Joy Usher.
This is one of those novels you’ll read in a couple of days, max, by the pool or at the airport or just at home if you’re not travelling. Our main character is still mourning her marriage, which ended the previous year, and she comes across and article titled The Seven Steps to Closure. We see her follow these steps and, you guessed it, achieve closure. It’s fun, but not extremely fluffy or lighthearted. I only really had two issues with it. The first is the fact that some of the steps were glossed over, while others seemed to take entire chapters. We also were told, more than shown, what the article was about. My second issue was the ending, or rather, the events leading to it. That whole bit seemed improvised, not really well thought-through. Other than that, it’s a nice, quick read that’ll get you through the end of your vacation.
