Hello and happy Saturday. For months, I’d been hearing about The Perfect Child by Lucinda Berry, and a few weeks ago I decided to take advantage of my Kindle Unlimited subscription and see what all the fuss was about. I’ve mentioned the fact that I’m a school teacher before, which means that I have a complex relationship with some themes and I tend to avoid them. One of those is when children are portrayed as the antagonists, so I had my reservations about this novel.

This is a thriller about a couple who work at a hospital and end up adopting a child who’d come in after showing clear signs of neglect and abuse. The girl seems to be more attached to the husband, but we can see the effort the wife also makes to bond with her. We get a dual timeline, one from the present, when an investigation related to the child is taking place, and one from the past, when she is being introduced to her new family. I obviously don’t want to say more about the plot. I think this was as intriguing as the reviews made it out to be, which is what I want when reading a thriller, so I was satisfied in that regard.
