Hello and happy Saturday. The other day I was busy cooking and doing other chores, and I found myself listening to the audiobook version of Abscond by Abraham Verghese. I got it via KU, and I’m almost certain it’s an Amazon Original, so you can only get it through this platform.
In this short story, our main character, Ravi, is an Indian American teenager in the late 1960s whose privileged life changes suddenly. It is told from his perspective, and it is a powerful exploration of those struggles our parents go through to give us everything, even though we ended up taking it for granted. As I’ve said before, I find short stories useful to get a feel for a writer’s style and to decide whether we’d like to read more from them. This is a best-selling author, and though I’m not adding any of his other works to m wishlist just now, I wouldn’t be opposed to reading something else from him in the future.
