Hello and happy Saturday. I don’t know why I waited so long to tell you about The Conditions of Will by Jessa Hastings because it’s probably my favorite book of 2025 or it’s very high in the ranking.
Our main character, who’s lived in the UK for years, is told that her dad just died, which makes her travel all the way back to Texas to deal with the aftermath. It’s clear from the beginning that she didn’t grow up in a loving home. The only person she’s close to is her brother, who struggles with addiction and brings his AA sponsor along. You’ll need to read the book to know what happens next, although this is clearly a character study rather than a plot-driven novel.
There are several trigger and content warnings, so do check them out before deciding to read this book.
