Hello and happy Saturday. From now on, I will be copying my NetGalley reviews and pasting them here. I will not introduce these posts as I usually do because I feel that I’d be working double, so I’ll title them like this one and get on to writing about my thoughts. Enjoy.
I’ve read novels that have similar plot points, so the ideas were not bad. The execution, however, needs a lot of polishing. It took me a while to understand the relationship between the characters, and then when that was clearly established, there was conflict, but no real tension. As far as the writing, the readers were told a lot, but we were shown nothing.
The audiobook narration could also benefit from improvement, as some of the reading sounded choppy, and it was clear to me that I was listening to two actors reading a book aloud instead of two characters reading their love story.
I did not give it one star because I did not find anything structurally problematic with the novel.
