Hello and happy Saturday. I woke up early this morning as I do every morning and was determined to finish reading Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery because I’d been reading it for almost two months. I did finish, so yay me, and I also cried, which at this point shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Anne of Green Gables is a classic. I was supposed to read it when I was in seventh grade and didn’t, so it makes sense that I decided to read it now that I am a seventh-grade teacher. It was also recently adapted, I believe as a Netflix show, which obviously gives the source material more attention. I have not watched the show, but I might after reading all the books in the series.
My review will be short, sweet, and to the point. I loved this novel and I sort of wish I’d read it as a teenager because it felt like a breath of fresh air. This world and this life are pretty horrible at times, and reading about Anne and how she experienced her reality gave me a much-needed respite. I also loved that the language in which the novel was written was pretty simple, and so were the situations that were narrated. I will push to have this book be a part of the seventh-grade “reading plan” instead of Moby-Dick. Wish me luck, but in the meantime, give yourself the chance to read it.
