My Thoughts on Hooked on Hollywood

Hello and happy Sunday. So far this year I’ve been able to keep up with my reading and I’m excited about that. I know that in the coming weeks I’ll probably have less time to read, but I still hope to finish at least one book a week or so. A few days ago, I finished Hooked on Hollywood by Mia Summers. I’d like to thank NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is your typical new adult novel, which includes tropes such as forced proximity and fake dating. Olivia, the main character, has recently gone back to her hometown after her ex cheated on her and stole from her. She works as a waitress and thinks her life is pretty much over even though she’s only twenty-four. Ryan is a Hollywood actor who grew up in Olivia’s hometown (which makes it his hometown) and is going back for a charity event to help save the old theater. They’d shared a special moment when they were in fourth grade, I think, and since Ryan became a famous actor, Olivia had followed his career rather obsessively. We do know where this is going, right?

This was a short, quick read, and the stakes weren’t high at all, which meant that I was reading this purely for entertainment. I don’t think this is the kind of book anyone remembers afterwards, even if it is a part of a stand-alone series. There were some inconsistencies in terms of plot continuity, but I don’t think it was major, just something that readers might notice and point out. It was absurd at times, to the point of being sort of ridiculous, but again, I knew what I was getting into with this type of novel and wasn’t bothered by that.

  1. […] name sounds familiar, it’s because I have already reviewed a book by her. You can click here to read that review. I had the chance to go over these two books and share my thoughts about them […]
