Hello and happy Sunday. Earlier this week I finished reading The List by Siobhan Vivian. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the oldest book I owned. It was published in 2012 and you can totally tell.
I assume this was thought as a commentary piece on beauty standards in high school, but really it sort of read like a vindication of ‘pretty girls’ and a justification of why ‘ugly girls’ are described as such. I guess you’d have to read the book to understand why I’m saying this, but I’d say just live with the curiosity or look for spoilers.
We read from the perspectives of the four girl titled the prettiest in high school, and the four ugliest. There is a pair in each grade. I’ll say this is a quick read and it would pass the Bechdel test, but other than that, I just think it was rage bait and it wasn’t even successful at that.
