Hello and happy Saturday. I know this post is coming super late to the whole Wuthering Heights party, but honestly it has nothing to do with my planning in advance. The opposite really sort of happened, and even though I watched the movie as soon as it came out and started reading the book right after finishing the movie, I just didn’t feel like saying anything about either. That’s why I’m posting this so late.
Originally, I was going to review the movie adaptation and the novel separately, but I DNFed the book by Emily Brontë. It honestly was super boring and I couldn’t have cared less about it, so I DNFed it like halfway through, and let me tell you, it’s a hard DNF. Now, the movie adaptation in and of itself was pretty disturbing and I appreciated the choices that were made in terms of wardrobe, set design, and effects. The music also added to that general feeling of unease the movie as a whole caused. I watched with my sister, and though we both alternated between being super attracted to both characters and hating their guts, we both agreed we wouldn’t watch it again. As an adaptation, and based on what I read, this was like a CliffNotes version.
