Hello and happy Thursday. I’m here to add to the books you *must* read. And look, I know that Almond by Won-pyung Sohn is a translated book and some people don’t like translations. I also know that the subject matter is unsettling because the main character has a condition in which he struggles to experience emotions, and he goes through a tragedy when he is a teenager.

The novel is short and the narration is raw yet captivating. Because of the main character’s condition, it lacks the emotional language that literature often has, which might make it a hard read for some. The ending was kind of odd, like it didn’t follow the pattern of the rest of the story, but then again, this isn’t a book you read for the plot but rather to follow the character. Believe me, as a reader you end up empathizing with him, and really wanting him to experience all these emotions that he just doesn’t feel.
