Hello and happy Sunday. A couple of months ago, I compiled this end-of-year TBR list, which isn’t really meant for the end of the year, but rather the end of my reading challenge as I approach completion way before the deadline. I’ve made decent progress on it, considering that I’ve crossed out nine out of the twenty-seven titles I originally added to the list. At number nine sat The Mother-Daughter Book Club by Heather Vogel Frederik.
This is one of those middle grade novels that are very evidently written by an older woman, and honestly, I don’t really know how much effort the author put into make the characters’ voices at least seem younger. The title is pretty self-explanatory: we have four girls whose moms decide to make up a book club, and over a year they pick Little Women by Louisa May Alcott as their read. Okay, so one of the girls’ dads is actually the one who joins, but not really because the mom is away. Also, the book club and the novel are used as excuses and not organically embedded into the plot whatsoever. If you are ever given the chance to read this book, give it up.
