Hello and happy Sunday. Every once in a while I need either a palate-cleanser read or a short, quick one. When I do, I like to reach for middle grade books because they usually don’t require many brain cells. This is the case of Indian Shoes by Cynthia Leitich Smith. Now, I don’t know whether this is own-voices and I didn’t do my research before reading this book. I also want to say that the title refers to an indigenous group, not someone who comes from Indian. That makes me doubt the own-voices thing even more. This is more of a collection of short stories featuring our main character and his grandfather, rather than a novel or a chapter book. It did what it needed to do, and I know it will go on to be a perfectly forgettable read for me.
